Introducing XAI Therapy™ — A Transparency Standard for AI in the Therapy Room
Today I’m putting a name on the thing I’ve been building for years without naming: XAI Therapy™ — explainable AI–assisted therapy. A standard, a toolkit, and a promise about how AI is allowed to behave in the most human profession there is.
The announcement, in three sentences
Every AI insight in my ecosystem traces to the client’s own entries and a named clinical framework — explainable by construction, not explained after the fact. Every output is reviewed by a licensed human before it touches care. And every client owns their record, because the data is their life.
What exists today
This isn’t vaporware with a manifesto. The client worlds are built and playable — the island with its five-act story and instruments, the recovery voyage, the couples’ world. The clinician’s cockpit — the Lighthouse — runs my own practice. The flagship client app now carries the framework’s name: LANCExai. A foundation paper with proposed validation studies is drafted, and pilots with a small group of clinicians are how it earns its numbers.
What I’m not announcing
No outcome statistics — none exist yet, and a transparency standard that launched on fudged numbers would refute itself in the first sentence. No crisis features — this goes to therapists, and safety planning belongs to the treating clinician in their own jurisdiction. No robot therapists. The human stays the therapist. That’s the whole point.
Why now
Because black-box AI is arriving in therapy rooms faster than the field can ask questions, and clinicians deserve a version of this future they can explain to the person across from them. I’ve spent 25 years in that chair. I built the version I’d be willing to use with my own clients — and I’m done building it quietly.
Start with the Glass Box for the why, the clinician’s guide for the how — and if you’re a therapist who wants in early, my door is open.
